Here is the link to all that we managed to take...

"For Science!"

Gowns for the Friday World's Fair event at Edwardian Ball 09

I've got a gown for Friday!  As with the last one, this was made entirely from things in my closet or my craft room.  It is not very often that I wear light pink, but in this case it works.  Joe says I'll stand out  from everyone in Black, but I told him there will be PLENTY of color.  Just imagine the tiny boater straw hat with flowers of ribbon and ribbon flowers tucked into the sides of the bustle....

Last minute Steampunk gathering @ the Tech Museum in San Jose

Howdy all, this is Joseph St Clair posting for my lovely lady Sophia St Clair:

Leonardo: 500 Years into the Future
This exhibit has been extended until January 25!

Right, so there we are, a perfectly respectable gathering of 17 mild mannered Steampunks, eating szechuan chinese food, flush with excitement after having seen Charles Babbage's Difference Engine No.2, when Spurious Logic mentions the Leonardo exhibit at The Tech.

Squeals of delight ensued and plans were hastily agreed upon to meet on Sunday, January 18 to see this before it leaves.

The crew of the Airship St Clair have purchased tickets for a 2:00 pm entry and would love to see all our Steamy friends there.

Details and tickets at the link below:

Steampunk Babbage Day in Mountain View, CA

Some crazy Victorian engineering enthusiasts have built an actual Babbage Engine on the designs of the Brilliant, if persnickity, Charles Babbage. The machine is elegant, beautiful, digital, efficient and calculates numbers to 32 decimal places without the use of electricity.

The machine itself is one of 2 in existence (the other is housed in a dark, neglected, corner of the Science Museum in London. We were there. Very sad.) and it will only be available for public viewing until May 2009. After that it disappears into a private collection (and the livingroom of one of the Captains of Industry, Nathan Myhrvold of Microsoft fame.)

So we're planning a field trip... And... to honor Babbage and all that might have been, we're making it a Steampunk Event!

Join us at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View for a little Tech History and then off to the Green Lantern for Chinese Food and socializing.

When:
Saturday, January 17 at 2:00 pm then Dinner at 5:00 pm (when the Museum closes)

Where:
The Computer History Museum- 1401 N Shoreline Blvd. Mountain View, CA 94043
The Green Lantern- 1477 Plymouth St. Mountain View, CA 94043

What to Wear:
Come show off your best Steampunk/Mad Scientist/Dr. Horrible/Victorian Adventurer/Time Traveler outfits or slum it as a Modern Californian.

What to Bring:
A little money for dinner. (The Museum is free (Donations accepted). The Green Lantern Menu is HERE.)
Small children
Friends
Family
Cameras (for the inevitable photo op)

Join us for the whole day, just the museum or just dinner. We always want to see you!

Note to People Taking Public Transit- We can easily pick you up at the Mountain View Caltran Station. Its a straight shot to the museum and we have a (micro) mini van.

As Always- Everyone is Welcome!

Steampunk New Years Eve Tea Party- Pictures

What can I say, but that Steampunk people are the Best people. What other group in the whole world is so kind, generous, entertaining and lively that you can invite 20 near strangers with an age range of 4 or 5 decades to a party and everyone has a great time?

There was tea! (Mmmmm.... blackberries)
There were Sweets and Sandwiches! (Walnuts and cucumbers and cream cheese, Oh My!)
There were Parlor Games (Charade - 0 - Pictionary Anyone?)

And there were 20 people in my livingroom, which, considering its size, is Quite remarkable.

Thank you everyone for a wonderful, joyful evening welcoming in the new year. I could not have asked for (nor arranged) better company.

Pictures Are Here (except for all the blurry ones of Leigh... will that girl EVER stop moving?)

Steampunk Day at Dickens Fair in SF

Here are photos of Steampunk Day at Dickens Fair.  It was really wonderful to see everyone that I read and reply to in the forums and to renew acquaintances from the Steam Con.  My students had a terrific time and the car ride home was filled with delighted cries of "It was fantastic!"  "NO!  It was Fan-Tas-Tique!".  I am sure this joke is going to live on in my 3rd period for quite some time.

Kuddos go to La Legion Fantastique for making everyone feel like a winner.  The certificates made the perfect memento.  (How DID you know to have so many on hand?) and the prizes were classy and meaningful (and there were so many!) and well disposed (tickets to the new Academy of Sciences for the mother and son team.  Perfect!).  It was a great show all around.

Photos Found Here!
